Covid Vaccine for all patients at risk all ages Direct Booking Line 07882525933

Ramadan and the Covid-19 vaccine

Ramadan is due to start on the evening of Monday 12 April 2021 and we urge our Muslim patients not to delay having their Covid-19 vaccine – first or second dose – during the holy month.

The British Islamic Medical Association has reviewed the analysis of Islamic scholars and confirmed that having the vaccine does not invalidate the fast. The vaccine does not contain pork or other animal, foetal or alcohol products - this reflects the advice of the majority of Islamic scholars that it is permissible. If you are still unsure whether you should have a vaccine during Ramadan, please speak to your local Imam for guidance.

If you are taking prescribed medicines, you should continue taking them during Ramadan, but check with your GP if the doses need to be adjusted or the times that you take them need to be changed.

If you have diabetes and want to fast, please speak to your GP or diabetes nurse about the safest way to do this. Remember that there is an exemption for people with diabetes, especially if you’re on insulin or have any medical complications.

COVID-19 vaccination scam alert:

People are being urged to be vigilant over a new COVID vaccine scam which is targeting vulnerable older people.

Waltham Forest Residents in their 90s have received phone calls to say they’ll be having their COVID vaccinations at home and they will receive a visit to their address at a certain time and date for this to be administered. They are being asked to provide personal details, other than their name, to make a payment or press a number on their keypad. The NHS does not charge for the vaccine and any calls such as this should be treated as a scam.

How the appointment system works:

The government has now approved for use two vaccines for Covid-19 and published advice on the priority groups to receive it.

The government have said they plan to first give the vaccine to:

  • care home residents and staff,
  • followed by people over 80 and health & social care workers,
  • then to the rest of the population in order of age and risk.

The vaccination programmed started in December 2020 and is being managed by the NHS.

  • The callers booking vaccinations will not ask for any other personal details other than asking you to confirm your name. They certainly will not ask for any money.
  • The caller will identify themselves and say they are calling on behalf of your GP and they are getting in touch about booking an appointment for a Coronavirus vaccine.
  • The caller will then offer dates and times for you to attend clinic. They will also give the location of the site where you will receive it. This may not be your usual surgery or at home.

COVID VACCINE CLINICS

Covid-19 Mask Exemption Letter request

Unfortunately as a practice we are unable to offer any letters for patients for face mask exemptions. This includes sick notes and exemption letters. Following the latest Government guidance, there is no requirement for evidence for exemption. It should be sufficient for someone to declare that they are eligible for an exemption directly with the person questioning them, such as a bus driver or shop assistant.
As a result, our practice is therefore not required to provide letters of support for those who fall under the list of exemptions or those who do not fall under the list of exemptions.
Some transport providers are providing evidence of exemption themselves such as First Bus and Arriva.
